Licensed Simply Music Piano Teacher

Westlake Village, CA

I teach piano to students age 6+ with the breakthrough Simply Music method. It is a breakthrough because the results students achieve are a geometric leap beyond results gained through traditional lessons that focus on reading music first.

These are not your parents' piano lessons! No pain, no shame, no trauma! This engaging method has students playing songs in a variety of genres, including classical, blues, contemporary, and accompaniments, during their first few months of lessons. Students learn to read music gradually. They also learn improvisation and composition for a thorough approach to music literacy. The goal is to enjoy music as a lifelong companion. And it’s fun!

About Sue Lopez

Everyone is Profoundly Musical

Anyone can learn piano, regardless of what they think of as talent. I have played the piano since age 5, and I wish I'd had Simply Music lessons then! From day one we play the piano, which allows me to emphasize the fun and enjoyment of music. In the process, I foster a lifelong love of music in my students. I also make management of student and parent concerns as convenient as possible, knowing how busy life can be.

Are you ready? Join me at my baby grand piano for 30 minutes of musical adventure.

Lessons

Lessons are 30-40 minutes, once a week.

Rate is $160 per month.

Payment is due for the month on the first of each month.

Absences are worked out on an individual basis.

Pay by cash, check, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, or Zelle.

Safety

You will find a clean, healthy piano studio. My husband and I are vaccinated and we follow all CDC protocols. Online lessons are available, but in-person is preferred.

Parent Involvement is Very Important!

I ask parents to attend and engage in lessons, as well as serve as your child’s “life coach” between lessons. This is the key factor in students sticking with lessons and making progress. Playing at home at least five times a week is necessary for growth. I encourage “doing with” your child rather than leaving them alone to practice.

Work, Music, and Education Experience

As an experienced singer and songwriter, I have studied music and composed several collections of my own songs. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and I teach with love. The Simply Music curriculum is proven (20 years) and structured. As a teacher, I adapt the pace and style of teaching to each student's needs.

Why Commit to Music Education?

Music is great for your brain and your heart. Even if you take Simply Music lessons for a short time, you will know a number of songs you can play for your own enjoyment for the rest of your life. Stick with it, and you will have a comprehensive music education. You will be able to play a variety of genres from memory. You will know how to accompany yourself and others. You will also learn composition and improvisation. You will experience the joy of expressing yourself musically.

Sue's Music

Sue's Music

One of the reasons I committed to learning piano was to compose my own songs. I’ve released three collections of original songs, which I call musical shares. I’ve also performed at numerous venues across the country, including Dodger Stadium and Nashville’s Bluebird Café.

I write songs about my life, including songs about struggle, recovery, and hope. I enjoy encouraging other fellow travelers by sharing my songs in concert and at events.
